Notched
logs provide the "dock" so you can get out of the longboat and onto
land. We stayed overnight in the Iban longhouse with the parents of one of our
guides. It was a wonderful experience. They fixed us a traditional dinner, including
wild pig, and we talked, with their son translating, of their lives and their
people and traditions.
One
of the local food treats is this grub found in the sago palm. Cooked and diced
into a soup it was delicious!
Back
hiking in the jungle I worried about mosquitoes and the diseases they carried
(malaria, dengue fever, etc.), snakes, and leeches (I got a few). Taking a water
break here, I was in my full protection mode, despite the 100 degree heat and
matching humidity.
