Our guides, Martin and Jenny, were from local tribes. They cooked our meals, generally rice and vegetables, sometimes with a small bit of meat.
As
we hiked through the jungle every step was carefully placed. Mud was everywhere,
sometimes 3 feet deep. It was monsoon season, and rainstorms could be expected
every afternoon. Many small rivers and streams had to be crossed, sometimes
on wet slippery logs, and sometimes by fording.
I
carried everything I could with me, with as much accessible from the outside
of my pack as possible. I looked like a walking garage sale. The pack also had
to be covered with plastic as protection from the daily rains.
